Each piece of WinterLemon jewelry is handmade with care from precious metals and natural gemstones. To make certain that your jewelry stays in its best condition and continues to bring you joy for years to come it is important to properly care for you jewelry.  Below are some care instructions to help you keep your gems sparkling.

  • Always protect your jewelry from sharp blows, scratching, chemicals, and extreme heat/cold.
  • Store your jewellery in a soft lined box or pouch. Anti-tarnish boxes are especially helpful in maintaining your jewelry. Try to keep pieces apart so they don’t rub together and hang necklace chains when possible to discourage tangling.
  • Your jewelry will age and tarnish naturally so if you want to keep your pieces in pristine condition, clean your jewellery regularly, using a professional jewelry cleaning product. Always read the manufacturers instructions.  Silver pieces that are designed to have an oxidized look should not be cleaned with silver polish or cleaner, as it will remove the oxidized finish.
  • Tarnish is accelerated by contact with the air and moisture. Keep jewelry that is not going to be worn for long periods of time in an airtight container and dry environment.
  • Never go swimming wearing your jewelry, as chlorine in swimming pools can cause damage to all metals and will erode gold jewelry. Salt water is also extremely harmful to jewelry.
  • Do not apply perfume or hand sanitizer directly on jewelry, as the chemicals in these liquids can cause a reaction in the metal.
  • Avoid wearing while cleaning, gardening or performing sports activities.

STERLING SILVER

Keep silver jewellery away from harsh chemicals like household cleaning fluids as they create abrasions and reduce the luster of the metal. Cleaning silver jewelry is best done with a professional jewelry cleaning product. Thoroughly dry your silver jewelry after exposure to water to avoid tarnishing.

GOLD

Keep gold jewellery away from harsh chemicals like household cleaning fluids as they create abrasions and reduce the luster of the metal. Cleaning gold jewelry is best done with warm water and detergent free soap. Thoroughly dry your jewelry after exposure to water.

GOLD PLATED & GOLD VERMEIL

Our gold plated and gold vermeil jewelry has a layer of gold on top of sterling silver.

Gold plating can wear off over time. Use non-abrasive cleaning materials. If a cleaning substance is too strong it may remove the gold.  Excessive polishing will accelerate the wear of the gold layer and expose the silver underneath.

Do not let your jewellery come into contact with nail polish removers, perfume or hairspray. Do not wear gold plated jewelry on a day to day basis, that way you will enjoy them for much longer. Clean in a mild dishwashing liquid diluted in water. Use of a polishing cloth or strong jewelry cleaner is not recommended.
